Sandra Bullock
Birth Name: Sandra Annette Bullock
Date of Birth: July 26, 1964
Arlington, Virginia
Height: 5' 7 1/2"

Born in a Virginia suburb of Washington D.C. to a German opera singer and a voice teacher, she grew up on the road with her parents and younger sister. She would often perform in the children's chorus of whatever production her mother was in. That singing talent would later come in use for her role of an aspiring country singer in "The Thing Called Love.  Her family moved back to the Washington D.C. area when she was a teenager. She later enrolled in E. Carolina University in North Carolina where she studied acting.
Shortly thereafter she moved to New York to pursue a career on the stage. This led to acting in television programs and then feature films. She gave memorable performances in "Demolition Man" and "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" but did not achieve the stardom that seemed inevitable for her until her work in the smash hit "Speed." She now ranks as one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood.  While working on "Two if by Sea" she discovered that she is allergic to horses. She replaced Demi Moore in "While You Were Sleeping," and wrote and performed her own song "Heaven Knocking On My Door" in "The Thing Called Love."
She's a big fan of the Internet, and replaced Lori Petty in "Demolition Man." Sandra is friends with Samantha Mathis and while a cheerleader in high school was voted "Most Likely To Brighten Up Your Day" by her high school class.  Her sister Gesine Bullock broke Sandy's nose with her elbow while opening a garage door when they were kids. She was considered for the lead in "Runaway Bride" and Is fluent in German.

Joan Cusack
Date of Birth: October 11, 1962
New York
Height: 5' 8"

Joan is the daughter of Dick Cusack, sister of Susie Cusack, John Cusack, Ann Cusack and Bill Cusack and has two sons.
The comic actress with offbeat looks and older sister of John, made her film debut at 16 in "My Bodyguard," appeared with her brother a few years later in "Class" and "Sixteen Candles."  As an English major at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, she spent most of her time with a local improvisational comedy group at the Ark Theater, where she returned in 1987 to direct "Death of an Anarchist."
Cusack, who despite the odd characters she's often played, is described as serious and thoughtful when offstage. She joined the cast of TV's "Saturday Night Live" for the 1985-86 season. Roles in such hit films as "Broadcast News" ( as a TV station intern), "Married to the Mob," "Working Girl" (which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress) and "Men Don't Leave" brought Joan well into the cinema limelight. She finally got a bona fide leading role in "My Blue Heaven," playing a dedicated, overzealous prosecutor. Her performances on stage (including her role in the off-Broadway plays "Brilliant Traces" and Shakespeare's "Cymbeline") earned rave reviews and gave her credence as a serious actress.

Illeana Douglas
Date of Birth:  July 25, 1965,
Massachusetts

Illeana has had show business in her blood since she was a child. The granddaughter of screen legend Melvyn Douglas, Illeana began studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. As a teenager, she acted in many plays and also did standup comedy.
In 1988, working for a publicist in New York led to her first movie role. Illeana would act in several Scorsese films. These were small roles, but by learning from actors and directors, Illeana developed her talents. In 1993, Illeana directed and starred in a comedy short "The Perfect Woman" which won Best Short Film at the Aspen Festival. This success was a turning point, and led to larger parts, such as getting a starring role in the commercially successful movie "To Die For" with big-name stars. That led to over 20 TV and movie projects after that. Illeana has developed quite an impressive resumé of work. She provides royal entertainment for her fans (royal being an appropriate word, since it's speculated she was named after deposed Romanian Princess Elena). Illeanna is married to Jonathan Axelrod

Bridget Fonda
Birth Name: Bridget Jane Fonda
Date of Birth: January 27, 1964,
Los Angeles, California
Height: 5' 6"

One of the very few third-generation movie stars, this appealing young actress with natural beauty certainly has some good genes going for her. The daughter of actor-director Peter Fonda, niece of actress/fitness guru Jane Fonda, and granddaughter of actor Henry Fonda, young Bridget spent her childhood years in Los Angeles and Montana.
While studying theater at New York University, she starred in a graduate student film called PPT and the workshop stage productions "Confession" and "Pastels." Following her first film roles in "Aria," and "You Can't Hurry Love", the talented young actress made critics and audiences stand up and take notice of her portrayal of British call girl Mandy Rice-Davies in the 1989 steamer "Scandal" for which she affected a very credible British accent. Fonda worked nonstop throughout 1989 and 1990, appearing in such films as "Shag" (as the guileless beauty pageant contestant), "Strapless", "Frankenstein Unbound", "Leather Jackets" and "The Godfather, Part III".
Back in supporting roles in 1991 with "Drop Dead Fred" and "Doc Hollywood" neither of which used her to good advantage. Her breakthrough parts came in 1992 (with the shared lead in "Single White Female" and an appealing light comic role in the ensemble film "Singles" (Cameron Crowe had her in mind when he wrote the movie) and 1993's criminal turned assassin in "Point of No Return" and the young woman courted and pursued by Eric Stoltz "her real-life companion" in "Bodies, Rest & Motion". She continues to alternate commercial projects with more idiosyncratic efforts, like "Little Buddha", "It Could Happen to You", "The Road to Wellville", "Camilla", "City Hall", and "A Simple Plan".
Bridget lived with Eric Stoltz from 1990-98 and is dating singer/actor Dwight Yoakam.  She was offered the role of "Ally McBeal," but turned it down to focus on movies. In fact, she didn't even read the script out of fear that she would like it too much.

The truth is that I am probably the least morbid person one can meet. If I think more about death than some other people, it is probably because I love life more than they do."

Juliette was born and raised in Southern California, the daughter of Glenis Batley, a graphic artist, and Geoffrey Lewis, an actor (who appeared in many of Clint Eastwood's films). Her family includes 11 siblings and half-siblings from her mother's three marriages and her father's four. Her parents divorced when she was 2.
Even at the age of seven Juliette recognized she wanted to become an actress. She began her professional acting career at age of 12. As a precocious teen she became legally emancipated at the age of 14 in order to gain exemption from child-labor laws, which mandate that child actors work no more than five hours a day on school days and that they be supervised by a guardian. Lewis dropped out of high school at 15 and subsequently passed the equivalency exam with the help of a tutor. While adequate in elementary school, she began failing her courses in the seventh grade because she did not like the 'whole format'. "If you're forced to study, you're not going to learn." Though she's always lived responsibly she admitted to some wild years, and was arrested for being underage in an underground dance club at age 16. The arresting officer, who recognized her dad when he picked her up at the station, gave Juliette her mug shot (the charges were dropped), which now hangs, poster-size, in her home.
After leaving school, Lewis moved to Hollywood where she lived with friend Karen Black for a few months before moving into an apartment with one of her friends. She had several roles, in 1987 she appeared in "Home Fires" as Mary and as Kate Ferrel the 13-year old daughter of widower/architect who marries his Central American housekeeper, an illegal alien, in the poorly received ABC sitcom "I Married Dora". She played in "Christmas Vacation", however the first chance to demonstrate her talent was "Too Young to Die?", based on the true story of Amanda Sue Bradley, a sexually abused runaway teen who was the first minor to receive death penalty. That role not only helped her land her co-star Brad Pitt (they broke up in 1993, after a four year relationship), it also led to the role as the narcoleptic sister in the quirky film "Crooked Hearts". But more importantly, it grabbed the attention of director Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro, so she got the role of Danielle Bowden in "Cape Fear". For her portrayal at the age of 17 she was nominated for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe. Her subsequent films were Woddy Allen's "Husbands and Wives", "Romeo Is Bleeding", "Kalifornia" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" co-starring Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. After playing Gracie in Nora Ephron's comedy "Mixed Nuts" she made the success hit "Natural Born Killers" playing Mallory Knox.  She played Kate Fuller in "From Dusk Till Dawn" co-starring Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney.  Juliette's hobbies are collecting antique clothing and walking around with a tape recorder documenting everyday moments in an effort to capture reality for future use in her film career.  She is also a member of the Church of Scientology and married Steve Berra on September 9, 1999.

Lucy Liu
Birth Name: Lucy Alexis Liu
Date of Birth: December 2, 1967
Queens, New York
Height: 5' 1"

Lucy was born to Chinese immigrants, her mother is a biochemist and father is a civil engineer.  Lucy Liu has always tried to balance an interest in her cultural heritage with a desire to move beyond a strictly Asian-American experience. Once relegated to "ethnic" parts, the energetic actress is earning her stripes as a leading lady.
Liu graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1986 and enrolled in New York University; discouraged by the "dark and sarcastic" atmosphere of NYU, she transferred to the University of Michigan after her freshman year. She graduated from Michigan with a degree in Chinese Language and Culture, managing to squeeze in some additional training in dance, voice, fine arts, and acting. During her senior year, Liu auditioned for a small part in a production of "Alice in Wonderland" and walked away with the lead.  Encouraged by the experience, she decided to take the plunge into professional acting. She moved to Los Angeles and split her time between auditions and food service day jobs, eventually scoring a guest appearance as a waitress on "Beverly Hills, 90210". That performance led to more walk-on parts in shows like "NYPD Blue", "ER", and "The X Files".  In 1996, she was cast as an ambitious college student on Rhea Perlman's ephemeral sitcom "Pearl" (1996).
Liu first appeared on the big screen as an ex-girlfriend in " Jerry Maguire" (she had previously filmed a scene in the indie film " Bang," ( but it was shelved for two years). She then waded through a series of supporting parts in small films before landing her big break on "Ally McBeal".  Liu initially auditioned for the role of Nelle Porter, which went to Portia de Rossi', but writer-producer David E. Kelley was so impressed with her spunk that he promised to write a part for her in an upcoming episode. The part turned out to be that of growling, ill-tempered lawyer Ling Woo, which Liu filled with such aplomb that she was signed on as a regular cast member.  With "Ally" Liu's film career got a much-needed boost.  She was next cast as a dominatrix in the Mel Gibson action flick Payback, and as a hitchhiker in the boxing saga " Play It to the Bone". The next year brought even larger roles: first as the kidnapped Princess Pei Pei in Jackie Chan's western " Shanghai Noon", then as one-third of the comely crime-fighting trio in " Charlie's Angels".
Lucy Liu keeps busy with an eclectic mix of off-screen hobbies. She practices the martial art of Kali-Eskrima-Silat (knife-and-stick fighting), skis, rock climbs, rides horses, and plays the accordion.  She has exhibited a collection of multimedia art pieces at the Cast Iron Gallery in SoHo (New York),  which earned her a grant to study and create art in China

Christina Ricci
Date of Birth: February 12, 1980,
Santa Monica, California
Height: 5' 3"

Precocious, outspoken child-teen starlet of the 1990s, Christina Ricci is the youngest of 4 children, her father a lawyer and a realtor mother. Her father, before becoming a lawyer, was a psychiatrist, who specialized in shrieking therapy. While growing up, Christina could hear the therapies through the vents in her room, and would act them out in front her mother.  She made her screen debut at the age of 9 in "Mermaids" in which she worked with Cher. Her breakthrough adult role was in "The Ice Storm" in which she plays a nymphet who skillfully seduces 2 brothers. Candid and controversial, as well as a highly skilled actress, Christina was much in demand by film makers in the late 1990s.  Christina's father & mother divorced after she filmed "Addams Family Values", she has not spoken with her father since.  In 1999, at the age of 19, she directed and worked on the screenplay for the movie "Asylum".

Christina Ricci : "I spend a lot of time with my mother. When I'm doing movies, she's always with me. We spend days being bored in an apartment together waiting for someone to call and say I'm needed for a shot. Because we're together so much, we have to get along. We have to find ways to get to know each other. We've gone through a lot of stuff, you know, and I think we're pretty close."

"I can be young and cute when I want to be, and I can be really mature when I want to be. It's kind of weird, like I'm the incredible changing girl, which is good because I can relate to adults and to people my age." (1995) "There are two sides of me, One is the professional side. When I'm working, I'm not a kid - and can't be. Otherwise no one would take me seriously. When I'm not working, I think I'm a normal 15-year-old."

"If I hadn't gone into acting, I would have been one of those weird runaways on Hollywood Boulevard. No, It'd be uglier. I'd probably be dead."

"I'm very shy. I can't even act that well when the camera's not on. I get really embarrassed."

"It would be awesome. I'd be like, 'Hit me, hit me please, no I'm serious, hit me.' Then once they leave evidence, I'd just pull out my gun and shoot them in the knee."

"I got this big kid to throw me into a bookshelf, because I love confrontation and causing trouble."

"I don't have any training, and I don't believe in training. Of course, people who don't have any training always say that."

About Marilyn Manson's band: "I hate the things they preach. They found a gimmick that sells. The fact that they're making money off all these teenage kids who actually believe in their message is disgusting."

For years, I hated myself. I covered the mirrors in my house. I literally couldn't have a mirror in my room. I still can't sit in a restaurant or someplace where I can catch my reflection. I get so paranoid."

I certainly hope I'm not still answering child-star questions by the time I reach menopause.

"I'm not perfect-looking and I don't say the right things, I'm a little different, nothing really special, but I guess I come across as a little more real to people and that comes through on the screen. I know I look young, but with the right make-up I can look older. I definitely feel older."

"My dream role would probably be a psycho killer, because the whole thing I love about movies is that you get to do things you could never do in real life, and that would be my way of vicariously experiencing being a psycho killer. Also, it's incredibly romantic."

"I like playing people who are so afraid and ashamed of who they are and so disgusted by everyone around them that they decide to become the ultimate extreme of what they're afraid they are."

"I don't think I'll be reformed until I'm well into my fifties."

"You have to excuse me because I AM a teenager, so I'm allowed to sound illiterate and make stupid comments like 'I'm not into hard-core feminism."

I think the main reason a lot of child stars don't make it is that it's hard to see someone as cute and then all of a sudden see them as having more depth. I guess I was just lucky that, when I was little, nobody thought I was that cute.

On stage, Laura was in the off-Broadway productions: "Three Sisters"; "Italian American Reconciliation" and "Wrong Turn at Lungfish" (to explain the title-- the play explains that evolution started with fish, then lungfish, then animals, then people... did we take a Wrong Turn at Lungfish? Hilary Swank
Birth Name: Hilary Ann Swank
Date of Birth: July 30, 1974
Bellingham, Washington
Height: 5' 7"

Hilary Ann Swank was born in Bellingham, Washington State, (the rumor that she was born in the same Lincoln, Nebraska hospital as Teena Brandon has become an Urban Legend). Hilary was discovered as a child by producer Suzy Sachs, who coached her in acting. When Hilary was 9 years old (and only 48" tall), she starred in her first play as "Mowgli" in "The Jungle Book." She began to appear regularly in local theater and school plays. Hilary attended school in Bellingham, where she resided with her family, until she was 16. Hilary competed in the Junior Olympics and Washington State championships in swimming; she ranked 5th in the state in all-around gymnastics (which would come in handy for starring in "The Next Karate Kid" years later).
In 1990, Hilary and her mother moved to Los Angeles, where they had financial hardships at first. Hilary enrolled in South Pasadena High School, and started acting professionally. By 1992, Hilary had blossomed to a tall (5'7") beauty. In the original film "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Hilary showed her versatility in the role of Kimberly, Buffy's classmate/nemesis, saying things to her like: "If you want to hang out with the unwashed masses, you really need to prioritize," and "Get out of my facial!" (in the TV series, the snobby antagonist would be Cordelia).
"The Next Karate Kid" was Hilary's breakout role; she got the part competing against hundreds of other actresses. Hilary was selected because of her acting ability and athletic prowess. Hilary trained extensively in the martial arts to learn karate. Ever since then, Hilary has been much in demand, and has worked nonstop in movies. Off screen, Hilary and Chad Lowe got married on September 28, 1997. Hilary's biggest movie achievement was portraying Teena Brandon/Brandon Teena, in "Boys Don't Cry", where she cut off all of her hair and lived as a boy for 1 month to prepare her for her role. Once again, she competed against hundreds of actresses for the part, and won. (She even told the director that she was also from Lincoln, Nebraska -- perhaps where the rumor started that she was born in the same hospital as the real-life title person.) Hilary earned a mere $75 a day for Boys Don't Cry. Hilary won the Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry" in the category "Best Actress in a Leading Role," in 2000. That must look pretty impressive on the resume for a 26-year-old actress. Needless to say, she is being cast for movies well into the future. An aficionado for anything that involves the outdoors, Hilary enjoys: sky diving, river rafting, and skiing. Hilary currently resides in Los Angeles with, besides Chad Lowe: 3 cats (one named Tallinn), and an African Gray Parrot.

These (and other) physical attributes, combined with an air of youthful sophistication, make Thurman the thinking filmgoer's dream date. Her mother is a Swedish model-turned-psychotherapist Nena, who was discovered at 16 in Stockholm by photographer Norman Parkinson. A nude statue of Nena's mother, Brigit Holmquist, a famous beauty and later baroness, stands in the port town of Trelleborg. Salvador Dali, introduced Nena to her first husband, Timothy Leary. Her father, Robert A. F. Thurman, is a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies at Columbia University School of Religion. He was the first westerner to become a Tibetan Buddhist monk. Uma was named for a Hindu goddess.
She made her film debut in "Kiss Daddy Goodnight", but neither it nor "Johnny Be Good", a sub-John Hughes-type teen comedy, held much promise for this model and cover girl. "Dangerous Liaisons", however, changed people's perception of Thurman, and her erotically charged performance won her critical praise. "Henry & June" gave her a leading role as Henry Miller's wife in the controversial (but little-seen) film based on Anaïs Nin's diaries; another 1990 film, John Boorman's "Where the Heart Is" also failed to win much of an audience. But Thurman acquitted herself nicely in those parts, and in subsequent roles as well: Kim Basinger's emotionally disturbed sister in "Final Analysis", a blind woman stalked by a serial killer in "Jennifer 8", the unwilling pawn of gangster Bill Murray who falls in love with Robert De Niro in "Mad Dog and Glory", and the leading characters in the long-awaited "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" and "Pulp Fiction" (for which she received an Oscar nomination). She was formerly married to actor Gary Oldman then dated Robert De Niro and Timothy Hutton. Thurman married Ethan Hawke in May of '98.  In July of that same year Ethan and Uma had a daughter, Maya Ray Thurman-Hawke.  In June 2000 the French cosmetics firm Lancome have employed her as a spokesmodel for their company.

Uma Thurman : "Tall, sandy blonde, with sort of blue eyes, skinny in places, fat in others. An average gal." - Uma Thurman, self description

"I'm very happy at home. I love to just hang out with my daughter, I love to work in my garden. I'm not a gaping hole of need. Desperation is the perfume of the young actor. It's so satisfying to have gotten rid of it. If you keep smelling it, it can drive you crazy. In this business a lot of people go nuts, go eccentric, even end up dead from it. Not my plan.
John Malkovich described Uma Thurman as having 'Jayne Mansfield's body and a horrifying great brain"

Reese Witherspoon
Birth Name: Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon
Date of Birth: March 22, 1976,
Nashville, Tennessee
Height: 5' 2"

Reese Witherspoon made her feature debut in "Man in the Moon." Starring opposite Sam Waterston, she earned wide critical acclaim as a 1950s tomboy who falls in love for the first time. She followed this performance with a sparkling performance in "Jack the Bear" as a 12-year-old hippy, circa 1970, opposite Danny DeVito and Gary Sinise. Next, Director Diane Keaton invited Witherspoon to play the lead role in the telefilm, "Wildflower, " with Patricia Arquette and Beau Bridges. She starred as a 1940s teenager whose sympathy and encouragement changes the life of an epileptic child. Following her performance in the NBC Movie, "Desperate Choices: To Save My Child, " Witherspoon starred as Nonnie Parker in the Walt Disney motion-picture "A Far Off Place." In this film, she embarks on a voyage of self discovery, journeying across Africa's Kalahari Desert. To prepare for the role, she had to perfect the Bushman language by studying with a Matabele tribe. She also starred in the CBS mini-series, "Return to Lonesome Dove" as the salty Ferris Dunnegan with Jon Voight and Barbara Hershey.
Shortly after she started acting she had an audition for a role in "Cape Fear." She was supposed to meet with Robert De Niro and Martin Scorcese for the auditon, but at the time didn't really know who they were. On the plane she was talking to the man next to her about her audition, and the man started to rave to her about De Niro and Scorcese. This made her so nervous that she completely blew the audition and the role eventually went to Juliette Lewis.
After the great hit of the movie "Fear", Reese started to work in a lot of box-office hits, such as "Pleasantville" and "Cruel Intentions". Her most courageous part is yet to come: she will play Evelyn, the girlfriend of a crazed yuppie, in the horror "American Psycho", based on the polemic novel by Bret Easton Ellis.
She was called to play the female lead in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" , but she refused the part. Off-screen, major changes in Reese's personal life began with her twenty-first birthday party in 1997. Out of three hundred guests, one in particular stood out in her mind - fellow actor Ryan Phillippe. As he tells it, he wasn't even sure he was invited but went anyway for the free beer. They hit it off immediately, but Ryan had to leave the next day to begin filming for " I Know What You Did Last Summer." It was weeks of letter-writing and phone-calling before they ever actually had their first date. Finally Reese made the decision to visit him in North Carolina and over a few days they got to know each other very well and have been together ever since. "He seemed so sincere and so not into himself. Too many young actors are so obsessed with themselves, it makes a relationship near impossible." Reese majored in English Literature at Stanford University; on leave from her studies as of 1998. Reese and Ryan moved in together shortly afterwards and became engaged in December of 1998. She married actor Ryan Phillippe and they recently had a baby on September 9, 1999 a daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillippe.

Reese Witherspoon : [on the break-up scene she had to do with Ryan Phillippe in Cruel Intentions (1999)]: "I literally beat him up when we had to do the breakup scene. We'd gotten so tired and we'd done the scene so many times. He was off camera giving me my lines and he started to ad lib - which is a bad thing when you're doing this kind of scene, and talking like, 'I never loved you! You're not attractive!' Terrible things. I got upset. I just hauled off and socked him in the face. And everybody in the crew was like 'Gasp! Can you believe she did that?' And I'm screaming my lines and I just yelled 'Get out!' And then he ran off and threw up in a stairwell. And I'm, like, sobbing, saying, 'I can't believe he said those things to me!' And the director came in and said 'Oh God, I can't believe it, that was so great! Can you do it again?'"

[on being an actress]: "The joy we get as actors is out of transforming ourselves into something that's not necessarily anything true to ourselves. And it's a power - not being yourself, and being in the role; it's just like another prop." - Femme Fatales, February 1998

[on having a baby]: "Obviously, this isn't the time in my life that I would have chosen to do this, but I feel like life gives you these challenges for a reason. I feel so happy and glad to be in the place that I am. I really feel blessed. This is something I need to face and take control of. " - ET Online, April 9, 1999

[talking about her character in Election (1999)]: "I think that's a good point. You don't realize how lonely my character is until the third act; we had some really sad scenes where nobody would sign her yearbook. In one of the scenes Paul Metzler says, "Tracy, have a great summer, " and she's genuinely moved and then she looks in her yearbook, and it says the same thing. It's a theme in the movie. It's similar for actors."

[talking about how she choose the films she will be in]: "I have a weird process, but the main thing is like this: I hear her voice in my head. There are a lot of wonderful scripts my agents can't believe I pass on, but I do because I can't hear the voice. It doesn't appeal to me then. I'm really careful. Unless I hear the voice, I can't do it."

[talking about Ryan Phillippe]: "I'm lucky to find a person to share my life, and the best friend I'll ever have."

[talking about motherhood and her baby]: "I feel good, I'm proud of Election and very proud of this [her child]. It couldn't be a better time. It's always the right time when it happens. You make it the right time."

[talking about Pleasantville (1998)]: "We were thrilled for just the three nominations we got , but obviously it's a little sad. I went through so many press junkets with people saying they loved it. And Joan Allen was robbed but she can't get nominated every year. She's an inspiration for every young actress. She has that calm and reserve about herself and makes you think she appreciates the normal things of everyday. Then she transforms into this character that's so different."

[about her life]: "Many people worry so much about managing their careers, but rarely spend half that much energy managing their LIVES. I want to make my life, not just my job, the best it can be. The rest will work itself out." - Animalhouse.com, April 30, 1999

[on life in general]: "I'm definitely happy with the way my career has gone, the success; but I even feel glad that I've experienced some failure in my life. That gives you perspective and humility about this business; it's good to realize that you're always just one movie away from not being in Vogue anymore." - Los Angeles Daily News, May 10, 1999.

[talking about Ryan Phillippe]: "We corresponded through letters and phone conversations and really got to know each other on a more intellectual level. And I think that really built a really long-lasting bond so that when we finally did see each other, I think it was love at first sight. Or love at second sight. "-TV Guide Online, March 18, 1999

"On the Internet, it says that I'm married. Some Psycho Santa has decided to tell the entire world that I'm married to him. I've never been married in my whole life." -- Reese Witherspoon to Dale Brasel in Detour Magazine, February 1998

[talking about her film Election (1999)]:"There was a girl in junior high. She was so perfect. She had all the boyfriends and was the smartest girl in school. And she was rude to me! This is my little revenge. I'm doing her in Election."

[talking about her film American Psycho (2000)]:"I had read the book and had a long discussion with Mary Harron who's the director and screenwriter. To me it's a dark satire about male response to the sexual liberation of women in the early '80s. Women didn't need men, and that was a new thing to these men, who wore designer suits and had wonderful apartments. I think the story is about this man who responds to his inadequacies with the only control he can take, which is to put women in these horribly compromising positions. Mary has this wonderful black tone about it. I thought, "She'll pull this off." In addition to Christian Bale, it has Jared Leto, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Mathis and Chloë Sevigny."

[talking about the movie business]: "The battles that we face in this business aren't financial, but they are moral. And I certainly think that the longer you can keep your values, and your morality intact, and keep your head on your shoulders about what is important at the end of the day, you can get the most out of this business and really emerge with something wonderful."

[on Ryan Phillippe]: "It isn't always easy seeing your boyfriend like you know in a bathtub with some girl or kissing some other girl. Well I guess its part of the job."- E! News Daily, February 1999
